Alongside numerous lesser-known dealers listed in the acquisition records of the Berlin Coin Cabinet, renowned firms such as Robert Ball Nachf., Felix Schlessinger, and Philipp Lederer auctioned off large and famous collections. The talk outlines the Berlin coin trade in the 1930s, addressing the persecution of those involved and the market’s monopolization. Digitizing and analyzing the Coin Cabinet’s archival materials—correspondence, acquisition registers, and visitor logs—has yielded new insights, allowing a more precise picture of the market in this period. It also discusses how the Coin Cabinet integrates provenance research into its strategy: digitization (recording individuals and organizations in authority data and the Wikiverse), training professionals (seminars, internships, open educational resources), and public outreach (citizen science).
