Networks of Impressionism: A Collaborative Digital Platform for Expanding International Provenance Research

This presentation introduces Networks of Impressionism, a collaborative digital platform developed by the Museum Barberini, the Wildenstein Plattner Institute, and Navigating.art. Using the Hasso Plattner Collection as its initial research corpus, the project explores how digitally structured data can help address key challenges of provenance research, including fragmented archival evidence, dispersed documentation, and the reconstruction of transnational object histories. By connecting artworks, archival sources, collectors, dealers, exhibitions, and provenance markings within a shared research environment, the platform enables new perspectives on historical networks and the circulation of Impressionist art. The presentation examines how relational data modelling, interactive visualisations, and transparent documentation can support reproducible, collaborative, and internationally connected provenance research while opening new methodological perspectives for the field.
